CARPHA Executive Board meets in Washington, D.C., before PAHO Directing Council starts


Washington, D.C., 26 September 2013 (PAHO/WHO) – The Executive Board of the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), which began functions on 1 January 2013, met to analyze its strategic plan and other topics on 26 September in Washington, D.C. This meeting happened just prior to the start of the 52nd Directing Council meeting of the Pan American Health Organization.

CARPHA was legally established in 2011 through an inter-governmental agreement signed by CARICOM Member States. Its mandate is to coordinate public health action among Caribbean countries in core areas including disease surveillance, development of human resources for health, emergency preparedness and response, health promotion and communication, and policy development.
