CARICOM health leaders discuss priorities at the 25th Council for Human and Social Development – Health meeting

Washington, D.C., 28 September 2013 (PAHO/WHO) — Health authorities from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) are meeting this weekend to discuss priority issues in public health, at the 25th Council for Human and Social Development – Health (COHSOD). The meeting is taking place at the headquarters of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) in the lead-up to the 52nd PAHO Directing Council meeting, Sept. 30 – Oct. 4.

Key topics on the COHSOD – Health agenda include policies on HIV and progress in the fight against noncommunicable diseases (NCDs).

Participants will also discuss policies on financing of health services and human resources for health, how to comply with the requirements of the International Health Regulations (IHR), and a strategic plan for the new Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA).
