Health is based on values and principles like the right to health, solidarity, social participation, equity, multisectoral partnerships, and universal health coverage, stressed Panama’s Minister of Health and outgoing Directing Council President Javier Díaz today in his remarks during the opening session of the 52nd Directing Council and 65th Session of the Regional Committee of WHO for the Americas.

A the same time, he highlighted Panama’s commitment to the reduction of maternal and infant mortality, vertical transmission of HIV, and psychoactive substances use, as well as to tobacco control, and improvements in health data collection and water and sanitation, among other areas.
