Countries of the Americas review the agenda for the 134th Session of the WHO Executive Board

Prior to the third day of the 52nd Directing Council, the Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Margaret Chan, and the Director of the Pan American Health Organization, Dr. Carissa F. Etienne, met with WHO Executive Board Members of the Region of the Americas to examine the agenda for the 134h Session of the Executive Board.

Among other issues, they discussed the upcoming Financing Dialogue that will take place 25-26 November 2013. The Dialogue with countries will aim to ensure a match between WHO’s results and deliverables as agreed in the 2014-2015 Programme Budget and the resources available to finance them. Members of the Executive Board also discussed the strategic resource allocation and the framework of engagement with non-State actors.

Delegates from Argentina, Brazil, Cuba and Mexico expressed their continued committment to actively participate in the Executive Board Meetings.

PAHO Director Dr. Etienne concluded the meeting by presenting the proposed officers for the 67th World Health Assembly. The General Committee will consist of Cuba as the President, and Costa Rica, Guyana, the United States and Uruguay as members.
