PAHO Program Budget 2014–2015 approved

Health post 2015 Development Agenda (2)

Country delegations from the Americas participating in the 52nd Directing Council of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) approved the PAHO Program and Budget 2014–2015 proposal today.

PAHO Director of Planning and Budget Daniel Walter pointed out that the new budget, made up of assessed contributions from Member States and voluntary contributions, contains no increases in country contributions, taking into account the current international financial climate.

The budget was presented with an overall 8.2% reduction when compared with the 2012–2013 approved budget, as a result of the continued decline in voluntary contribution funding for the Region. To compensate for this reduction, PAHO will create a voluntary fund to which countries can make contributions.

Both the PAHO Strategic Plan 2014-2019 and the Program and Budget 2014–2015 have been developed taking into account the Health Agenda for the Americas 2008–2017; the Country Cooperation Strategies; current resolutions, including plans and strategies; and the ongoing reform of the World Health Organization.
