The countries approved the progress report on the regional plan on worker’s health, which aims to analyze the development of a new plan for worker’s health for the 2014-2019 period, so that it meets the new global, regional, and national challenges, and is consistent with PAHO’s strategic plan for the next five years.

The delegate from Mexico, Carlos Alvarez, stated that this latest proposal will be of great importance and that it should take into account the quality of work environments, policies and legislation, and the promotion of workers’ health.

For his part, U.S. delegate Jimmy Kolker stressed the need to adapt existing plans from around the world into context of the Americas .

Dr. Luiz Augusto Galvao, Director of PAHO’s Department for Sustainable Development and Health Equity, indicated the plan would be developed in a participatory manner and on the basis of other existing plans worldwide with a strong focus on the health sector.
